We are hosting a series of interviews with leading social democratic women today who have inspired so many with their strength, intelligence, and determination. These women have opened up doors for so many and we cannot wait for you to hear their invaluable insights and stories.
These interviews will take place live online so that people can join us from anywhere in the country. Each video interview will be recorded and made available on our website for you to enjoy again in the future.

Audrey McLaughlin:
McLaughlin was elected as the first New Democratic Party member of parliament for the Yukon in 1987. In 1989, she became the first woman to lead a national party in Canada. McLaughlin stayed on as leader until 1995 and retired from politics two years later. She later went on to publish her autobiography in 1992: A Woman’s Place: My Life and Politics. Additionally, she was awarded the Order of Canada in 2004 and she was on the National Roundtable on the Economy and Environment from 2005-2006. She worked on a variety of political projects in Africa and Kosovo, served as President of the Socialist International Women and represented the Yukon Government on Circumpolar Affairs.

Marit Stiles:
Marit Stiles is the Leader of the Official Opposition in Ontario and has represented the riding of Davenport since 2018. Prior to becoming an MPP, Marit fought for Canada’s arts and culture sector as the National Director of Public Policy and Research for ACTRA, the actor’s union. Marit became a passionate advocate for local public schools as a parent, eventually running and winning a seat as a school trustee from 2014-2018. Marit is an organizer at heart, making her a strong empathetic leader who can get things done.

Rachel Notley:
Rachel Notley is a fighter. She's dedicated her life to working to make life better for workers and families. Rachel has served as MLA for Edmonton-Strathcona since 2008, and formerly represented all Albertans as the Premier of Alberta. She is now the leader of the Official Opposition, continuing to work for Albertans.
As Premier she eliminated union and corporate donations to political parties, raised the minimum wage to $15 per hour, and froze tuition rates for post-secondary students. Notley built over 200 new schools during her time as Premier and funded the building of new hospitals in Edmonton and Calgary as well as initiating a $25 per day childcare program.
Before getting involved in politics, Rachel dedicated herself to fighting for workers’ rights and upholding policies that ensure their safety. Her legal career was focused on labour law, workers' compensation advocacy, and workplace health and safety issues, and she worked for a variety of labour unions in Alberta and BC. She also served as a Ministerial Advisor to British Columbia's Attorney General in the 1990s, when the government introduced the first ever amendments to legislation to protect same sex couples.
